National expert on ‘Fall of the Faculty’
to visit UMD Sept. 26
Benjamin Ginsberg has chronicled the growth of administrative costs in higher education
Duluth, Minn., Sept. 18, 2013 – Benjamin Ginsberg, a noted political scientist and professor at Johns Hopkins University, will visit the University of Minnesota Duluth Sept. 26 to discuss his latest book, The Fall of the Faculty: The Rise of the All-Administrative University and Why it Matters. Ginsberg’s presentation is free and open to the public.
The Fall of the Faculty examines what Ginsberg describes as the fallout of rampant administrative bloat that now plagues the nation’s universities. Universities have added layers of new administrators and staff to their payroll while at the same time slashing budgets and laying off full-time faculty in increasing numbers.
Ginsberg outlines how this trend can be reversed and how we can revamp the university system so that real educators can regain their voice in curriculum policy.
